A Weather Notice for a Festival

1. The fictional Brook Festival has printed a notice the evening before it opens. Rain is expected, so the organisers have changed some parts of the plan. The outdoor craft market will move into the community hall. The evening concert will take place in the school theatre rather than on the park stage. A guided park walk is cancelled. The organisers want visitors to know where continuing activities will be. The notice does not say that the entire festival has been cancelled.

2. Moving an activity indoors also changes practical details. The community hall has fewer spaces for craft stalls than the park, so only sellers who have already confirmed their places will be admitted. They must use the side entrance when bringing boxes. Visitors will enter through the main door. These separate entrances are intended to prevent queues of visitors from blocking sellers carrying equipment. A map beside the notice marks both doors, rather than listing craft items.

3. Concert ticket holders may use their existing tickets at the theatre. They do not need to buy new ones. However, the theatre opens its doors half an hour before the performance, and the notice asks people to arrive early. There is no free choice of seats: each ticket keeps its original seat number. Organiser Yael says that a move to a different building should not mean selling the same concert twice. She asks visitors to check the new address.

4. People who bought tickets for the guided walk can request their money back. The walk has not been moved into the theatre, because its purpose was to explore the park. The organisers are considering offering a new walk on another weekend, but no date has been chosen. This possible later event is separate from tomorrow's cancelled activity. The office answers refund questions during usual hours. Refund requests should identify the cancelled walk.

5. The notice will remain at the festival entrance and will also appear on its website. If the weather changes again, the organisers will update those two places. Visitors should not have to guess which plan is current. Yael knows that some people will be disappointed about the walk, but she wants the information to distinguish clearly between a new location, an unchanged ticket and a cancelled event. Different changes need different actions, even when they all begin with the same weather forecast.
