1. A black bag is a poor description when several black bags are waiting in a lost-property cupboard. At the fictional Park Centre, staff have replaced a public table of found objects with a search board. The board lists general descriptions and the dates on which objects were found. It does not display every detail of each object. Manager Tess wants owners to have enough information to recognise a possible match while keeping some details for a private ownership check. People can read the board during the centre's opening hours, without creating an online account or leaving a public telephone number. The cupboard itself stays behind the reception desk.
2. A person who thinks an entry describes their property speaks to a receptionist. They are asked to describe a detail that is not on the board, such as a mark inside a bag or the contents of a pencil case. Staff then compare that description with the found object. A general match is only the beginning of the check, not final proof of ownership. For example, the words 'blue umbrella' may attract several enquiries. Knowing about a damaged handle can help distinguish one umbrella from another. Staff do not tell the person the hidden detail first, because that would remove its value as a check.
3. The new process can still leave uncertainty. When two people describe the same plain object and neither can provide a distinguishing detail, staff do not simply give it to the person who asks first. They follow the centre's existing procedure for uncertain claims. Tess also asks staff to remove a board entry after its object has been returned, so visitors do not keep searching for something that is no longer there. The board has made descriptions more useful, but the centre has not claimed that it will identify every owner. It is one part of a process that combines a public clue, a private description and staff judgment. Objects that remain unclaimed are handled under the centre's normal rules, rather than kept on display forever.
